What is PDGF used for?

PDGF can be considered a growth factor. It is one of the growth factors that promotes the cell division and growth of cells. This is the reason why cancer cells grow faster. They don’t die fast as they grow in the absence of PDGF. There are three main types of PDGF. All of them are active molecules that are responsible for the growth of cells. There are two forms of PDGF receptor. Both of them are tyrosine kinases, which means that they regulate other proteins. Pdgf-aa Both of them help in cell growth and proliferation. They also increase cell motility. One of them is PDGFR-α and the other is PDGFR-β. When PDGF binds to its receptors, it activates many different proteins. These proteins are involved in various cell functions such as differentiation, proliferation, migration, and apoptosis. There are many drugs and compounds that target those PDGF receptors. Some of them have been used in the treatment of leukemia, kidney, liver, colon, breast, prostate, and lung cancer. They are called PDGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Most of them are monoclonal antibodies that can bind to the ligand-binding domains of PDGF receptors and block the ligand binding to its receptors.
