How to Draw A Shih Tzu. The Shih Tzu is not just one of the special dog breeds but also one of the cutest! This breed is known for its small stature, flat face, and long, wavy hair covering the entire body.

While they’re known for these aspects, they’re also hailed as a stubborn and friendly breed with a great personality. It has become a popular breed worldwide, and learning to draw a Shih Tzu is also fun. This can be a tricky challenge, so we recommend reading this tutorial’s end to see how it’s done!

How to Draw A Shih Tzu

Step 1

To begin this guide on how to draw a Shih Tzu, let’s start with the dog’s face. As mentioned in the introduction, the muzzle of this breed is one of the most distinctive parts of the dog, so we will try to depict it accurately.

Begin by drawing a small, flat nose for the dog. Next, draw small round shapes surrounded by many curved lines for the dog’s eyes.

Shih Tzus tend to have hair from their faces resembling a large mustache, and we will also start drawing those. Use a few longer curved lines that run down the sides of the face. We’ll finish off these sections of hair as we move on to the next steps of the guide.

Step 2

For the next part of your Shih Tzu drawing, we will draw the furry top of the head. First, draw a small bow on the middle clump of hair you just drew in the previous step. Using some curved lines, we will also extend some hairs of this bow. Next, we draw floppy ears on the sides of the head to draw a Shih Tzu.

Step 3

You will now draw more of the face by adding some front legs in this third step of our how-to draw a Shih Tzu guide. We will use a sharply curved line for the dog’s mouth to help give the face that typically somber expression that this breed normally has.

We’ll draw many more curved lines around this area to make it look fluffier and hairier. Use a few more curvy lines to outline the front legs and a little more of the body for the Shih Tzu. The front legs are tied with string at the base as a fur curtain surrounds the dog’s body.

Step 4

For the next part of this Shih Tzu drawing, we will add the beginning of the tail and the back of the body. The tail is fluffy and sits in a small bundle spread down the dog’s back. You can draw this ponytail by extending a few curved lines up and out, almost like a hair fountain.

Next, we also draw the middle part of the body. As mentioned earlier, this dog has a curtain of hair that surrounds the body, and you can portray him with curvier lines in this middle section. Once this part is drawn, you can prepare to finish the final details and elements in the next step of the guide.

Step 5

You are now ready to complete this drawing in preparation for the final step of this how-to-draw a Shih Tzu tutorial. First, finish off the body with a few longer, curved lines to complete the final section of the hair “curtain” surrounding the body.

Once the body is complete, we can draw a few more details on the face to increase the fur of that area. You can also add more detail to the eyes by drawing some pupils. Then you are prepared for the last step!

Also, make sure to add a background or additional elements that you think are appropriate for this image.

Step 6

We will finish with some color for the final step of this Shih Tzu drawing. In our contact image, we chose to stain the dog with some white sections rotating with brown.

For a nice contrast, we used a nice shade of pink for the bow in the head hair. Will you choose similar colors, or do you have a different color scheme for this adorable little dog? We can’t wait to see what you’re looking for!
