Kausani is a beautiful hill station located in the Bageshwar district of the Kumaon division of Uttarakhand state, situated at an altitude of 6075 feet above sea level on the Pingnath peak, showing the beauty of the Himalayas. Apart from the vast Himalayas, there is a grand view of Nandakot, Trishul, and Nanda Devi mountain.

Kausani is a mountain tourist destination located on a hill in the middle of thick pine trees. From here, you have a fantastic view of the beautiful valleys of Someshwar, Garuda, and Baijnath Katyuri. The Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi called Kausani the “Switzerland of India.” The city of Kausani, situated between the Kosi and Gomti rivers, attracts tourists with its beautiful natural scenery, sports, and religious places.

There is also a tea plantation, which is about 6 km from Kausani towards Baijnath. The tea of ​​this region is very aromatic and tasty. Presently Kausani is a famous tourist destination and every year tourists from all over the world come here.

It is said about the history of Kausani that Kaushik Muni had done severe penance at this place; hence this place was named Kausani. At the same time, the famous Indian poet Sumitranandan Pant was born in Kausani in 1900, and Mahatma Gandhi stayed in Kausani for 12 days to complete his work on Anashakti Yoga.

It was during this time that Mahatma Gandhi gave Kausani the title “Switzerland of India.” Mahatma Gandhi made Kausani famous worldwide by giving information about the unearthly beauty of Kausani in the book “Young India.” Kausani is a tourist destination that is perfect for vacation, honeymoon, and nature lovers. Anashakti Ashram

Anashakti Ashram is a famous ashram where Mahatma Gandhi stays for some days. It is also known as Gandhi Ashram. This ashram was built to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. It was here that he wrote an article called Anasakti Yoga. The snow-capped Himalayas can be seen from this ashram. Chaukhamba, Neelkanth, Nanda Ghunti, Trishul, Nanda Devi, Nanda Khat, Nanda Kot, and Panchachuli peak are visible here.

Laxmi Ashram

This ashram is also famous as Sarla Ashram. Sarlaben built this ashram in 1948. Saralaben’s real name was Katherine Hillman, and later she became a follower of Gandhi. About 70 orphans and poor girls live and study here—a workshop where these girls get sweaters, gloves, bags, little mats, etc.

Pant Museum

Famous Hindi poet Sumitranandan Pant was born in Kausani. There is also a museum, which is known as Sumitranandan Pant Gallery. The house where he spent his childhood has been converted into a museum. His birthday is celebrated every year in the museum, and a conference is also organized in his honor. Here objects related to his daily life, collection of poems, letters, awards, etc., have been kept.

Kausani Tea Garden

Kausani Tea Garden is a place that is a paradise for nature and tea lovers. These tea gardens are located near Kausani. Here you can get information about tea production by visiting the gardens and visiting the tea factory. Tourists coming here do not forget to buy tea from here. The tea here is exported to Germany, Australia, Korea, and America.

Baijnath Temple

Baijnath Temple, located at a distance of about 20 km from Kausani, is one of the significant places of interest in Kausani. This historical city is decorated with many ancient temples and religious places. The Baijnath temple was built during the 12th century, and according to legend, the marriage of Lord Shiva and Parvati took place here at the confluence of river Gur and river Gomti.

Rudradhari Falls and Caves

Rudradhari Falls is an exceptional tourist destination just 12 km from Kausani that surrounds rice fields and Deodar forests. Here you can learn about the secrets of the ancient caves of this place by trekking in the Adi Kailash region.

Trekking

Risk-loving tourists can enjoy trekking and rock climbing here. Sundar Dhunga Trek, Pindari Glacier Trek, and Milam Glacier Trek are named among the best trekking routes in India. This place is also known for celebrating Makar Sankranti, a festival of Hinduism, which is called Uttarayani here.

If you want to visit Kausani Hill Station, then the best time is between April-June and October-February, during which the weather is quite pleasant. Kausani is easily accessible by air, rail, and road from different parts of the country. The nearest airport is Pantnagar. The nearest train station from Kausani is Kathgodam which is well connected with major cities in India. On the other hand, if you opt for the road, then the Kausani bus station is directly connected to many cities; from here, regular buses run from the neighboring states of Uttarakhand.
