Cartoons appeal to adults and children alike, but the characters often aren’t what one might call traditionally attractive. That doesn’t stop them from being adored by the masses, though! Let’s take a look at some of the ugliest cartoon characters out there and see why they’re loved so much by their legions of fans. 1) Quasimodo The – Hunchback of Notre Dame
Quasimodo is a fictional character who appears in Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. In Disney’s 1996 animated film adaptation and 2002 stage musical, he is voiced by Tony Jay. Quasimodo is born with a hunched back and a misshapen head, Ugly Cartoon Characters causes him to be shunned by society. He lives as an outcast in the bell tower of Notre Dame and tends to the bells, his only friends being the gargoyles who live on the roof.
Quasimodo rescues Claude Frollo from being executed by Judge Claude Frollo for a crime he did not commit.
2) Shrek – Shrek
Shrek is the protagonist of an animated film of the same name and its sequels. He was voiced by Mike Myers in all three films, as well as for a short appearance in the TV series Shrek’s Swamp Stories. Shrek (along with Donkey) has been used extensively as a mascot for DreamWorks Animation.
Shrek is a green ogre who lives on his swampy farm near Far, Far Away. One day, he finds his swamp invaded by fairy tale creatures who had been banished there by order of the evil Lord Farquaad. The fairy tale creatures ask him to return their former home to them, but Shrek refuses and tells them to get out of his house and away from his things.
3) Marge Simpson – The Simpsons
Marge Simpson is the wife of Homer and mother to Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. She’s a caring, loving matriarch who often finds herself trying to keep order in her family. Marge is the voice of reason and helps to ground Homer when he flies off the handle.
Marge Simpson is one of those characters that you can’t help but love. She’s a caring mother, loving wife, and always tries to do what’s right for her family. She has an amazing sense of style too!
4) Sulley – Monsters, Inc.
Sulley is one of the most iconic ugly cartoon characters. He’s a blue fuzzy monster with two horns on his head and large fangs, but he’s actually a cuddly and kind-hearted creature. He has worked hard to make friends at Monsters, Inc., where he was hired as a scarer. Sulley is not only one of the main protagonists in the film, but also appears in other Pixar films like Up, Toy Story 3 and Finding Dory.
Sulley is voiced by John Goodman who also voices another well-known ugly character: Rosebud from The Muppet Christmas Carol.
5) Dopey – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Dopey, the seventh dwarf in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, is easily one of the most loved characters in all of Disney history. Dopey appears as a happy-go-lucky character with a lazy attitude that usually leads to him getting into trouble. He’s shown to be somewhat dimwitted but still has a good heart. Though he may not be the smartest dwarf in the bunch, Dopey has never been characterized as being unkind or mean spirited like other members of his clan. In fact, he’s always very caring towards Snow White and is always eager to lend her assistance in times of need.
6) Gaston – Beauty and the Beast
He’s the villain in Beauty and the Beast, but you can’t help but love him. He’s handsome, strong, and charming. Plus he has a great sense of humor that pairs well with his inflated ego. Gaston is one of those characters who’s just so easy to hate for all the wrong reasons, which makes him all the more lovable as a character Ugly Cartoon Characters. Peter Griffin – Family Guy: His entire family is full of strange-looking people, but Peter Griffin might be the worst. What kind of man lets himself go like that? Why doesn’t he put down the donuts? Mr Burns – The Simpsons: If there were ever a case study on how money will make even ugly people attractive, it would be Mr Burns. However he was born rich and old and creepy looking which made him extra unlikable when Lisa first met him during her chocolate factory tour.
7) Mr. Potato Head – Toy Story
Mr. Potato Head is a quintessential ugly cartoon character, but he’s also the most iconic toy in Toy Story. He’s so recognizable that he’s been referenced in countless other pop culture icons, like Family Guy and The Simpsons.
He was even inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 1998! His popularity with children is unsurprising given his toy-like appearance, but there are many adults out there who still love him too.
